Description
Ultralight compact stove and windshield set. Quick and easy to set up and use with a lightweight but durable marine-grade aluminium-alloy construction.
Spill-proof design makes this stove much safer than other alcohol stoves. Carbon felt keeps alcohol safely inside the burner, even if the stove is accidentally knocked over!
Easy to light even in freezing conditions, where other stoves may fail to light at all. Can be fuelled with ethanol/methylated spirits, alcohol gel and solid fuel tablets. Ideal for travelling where certain fuels may be unavailable.
Folding 6-section aluminium windshield allows you to cook in windy conditions. The burner, stand and windshield all fit neatly inside the included black storage bag, which will then fit inside most cooking pots/mugs.
The Phantom Ultralight Stove and Windshield Set is one of the lightest multi-fuel stoves on the market.
The folding stand provides sturdy support for pots of up to 1 litre, making it ideal for lightweight backpacking and camping set-ups.
The burner is a simple and reliable design that uses carbon felt to provide easy lighting in cold weather conditions, with no priming or pumping needed. The carbon felt also makes the burner spill-proof which massively increases the safety aspect of using this alcohol stove, as other stove designs can spill flaming alcohol if knocked over! The burner can be filled with up to 50ml of alcohol.
An included essential is the 6-section aluminium windshield, which is a proven design for providing a solid defence against windy conditions that are typical with outdoor cooking.
The stove and windshield are super-quick to set up and use, so you can be cooking in under 30 seconds! They also cool down very quickly after use, allowing you to safely pack it away without waiting around.
When the set is packed into the included bag, it is small enough to be stored inside almost all sizes of cooking pots and mugs, making it suitable for fishing, hiking, cycling and lightweight backpacking where traditional camping stoves would take up too much space.

To evaluate the efficiency of the Polymath Phantom I picked alternative cookers that would use the same fuel and give as close to the same conditions as practical. I used 2 types of fuel, 40ml of Meths; for which the comparative burner was a Trangia, and 1 block of FireDragon gel with a BCB FireDragon stove for comparison to the Phantom. For each burn, I used a measured 0.5L of cold water in a Trangia mini stove pan. After each boil attempt I rinsed out the pan with cold water repeatedly, until the pan felt completely cold, and then refilled with cold water.
In each case I protected the burner from the gusty breezes, using the windshield which is a part of the Polymath kit. I timed the various stages using a standard wall clock and recorded times are to within a few seconds in each case. As you can see from the results, times for each stage with each type of cooker are remarkably close. I couldn’t achieve a boil with FireDragon in either case because the block burned out before the water reached the required temperature and 40ml of meths only just made it with both stoves! The meths issue can be solved by simply adding a bit more at the start but the failure of the FireDragon just confirms my previous poor results with that fuel.
Meths
Phantom start 14.08
Phantom steam 14.14 (+6)
Phantom boil 14.27 (+19)
Trangia start 14.34
Trangia steam 14.42 (+8)
Trangia boil 14.52 (+18)
FireDragon
Phantom start 15.13
Phantom steam 15.19 (+6)
Phantom burn out 15.22 (+9)
BAC start 15.26
BCB steam 15.32 (+6)
BCB burn out 15.35 (+9)
My conclusion has to be that the Phantom is as efficient as either of its closest rivals, but is also more compact and lighter than the competitors and on examination before and after use appears to be good quality, durable, very cost effective and far more versatile since it can be used with a wide variety of fuels. Note that when you use liquid fuel you use the larger carbon felt filled part of the container but for gel or solid fuel blocks use the empty cap section.
Since I was testing a Polymath stove, it seemed appropriate to light the fuel using a Polymath Spitfire ferro rod kit. The sparks from this ignited the meths with no problem but the FireDragon wouldn’t take light so I used the Spitfire tools to set fire to one of the waxed jute twine sticks from the kit and that lit the gel blocks immediately, using a total of only 1/3 of one stick for both gel blocks.
This is yet another top-class piece of kit from Polymath. It passed all my practical tests and I have no hesitation in trusting it to serve me well on many future trips in the outdoors, using reliable fuel types.

So I took the phantom Ultralight Stove and Windshield Set onto Exmoor to test it in real conditions!!
My YouTube video didn’t end up being the most professional BUT as for the phantom stove it is a super piece of kit it really does work well. It is super lightweight, and as all polymath Products AMAZING value for money!!!
Thank you polymath Products! 👍

I was looking for a standalone alcohol burner that would work well in my Crusader Mk1 cooker – this is it! It sits nicely in the recess n the cooker, and heats the mug well using the built-in support.
No more messing with hexa (hate the fishy smell) or Firedragon solid fuels – I now have a clean, efficient and reusable way to use the cookset with just the burner, and the flexibility of using the stand and windshield when using the burner elsewhere should I choose.

Bought this set a year or two ago and have used it to brew up with. The windshield is ok but, like all the windshields of this design, a bit fiddly and not the most stable. It does work but I prefer to use my own set up. However, the burner and stand are excellent which is why I have given it 5 stars. I’d prefer it if they sold the burner separately as well as it’s such a good bit of kit.

Bought 2 of these to go camping with my adult son. Delivery was prompt and with royal mail. Tested it in the house and as the other reviews say it is a great product. If I had to pick fault with it – some of the edges are a bit sharp and one of the pegs that should lower so it sticks in the ground is blocked by a guide. These are very minor issues and otherwise I am delighted. Thank you Polymath!

I’ve just bought the meths burner, stand and windshield. I hike regularly and wanted something to make hot drinks whilst out. It does this brilliantly. I am also planning a bikepacking trip to the Outer Hebrides and will be taking this along. So lightweight and efficent!!
